The car first needs to be checked over for dirt, dust, tar or any other kind of dirt, there are special cleaning products that remove this dirt before the cleaning process begins. You would wipe over the cars body with the cleaning product to make sure there was no dirt that could be smeared over the rest of the car, you would have to use a clean soft towel and dry soft bristle brush for hard to reach areas.
You then need to spray the cleaning solution over the cars body making sure to cover it completely. Once the cleaning solution is applied you need to rub it thoroughly with the clean cloth, you can reapply the cleaning fluid to your cloth until the entire body is cleaned.
You will have to look over the whole body of the car making sure no dirt remains because if it does and is rubbed along with the polishing fluid it may scratch the paint work. Then you will apply the polishing fluid to the car again making sure you cover the whole body of the car. You will then buff using a clean dry cloth or fine towel until all the polishing fluid is rubbed in, this should leave a high shine on the body of the car. This means there is no need for large amounts of water or shampooing resulting in toxic water being washed down drains.
There are other benefits to using these kinds of products such as the fact that they provide an anti-static barrier, this meaning your car is less likely to attract dirt and dust. So this means your car can stay looking clean and shiny for longer as dirt will not stick to it as easily.
There are some products that have ingredients such as petroleum and others that are completely non toxic so it depends how environmentally friendly you want the product to be. There are also companies that specialise in waterless car cleaning using various types of product, you would need to check what kind of products they use and see if they would be suitable for you car and paint work.
